Hart Elementary 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year

Hart Elementary is proud to announce Mrs. Magdalena Flores as its 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Flores is recognized for her contributions as a teacher in delivering high quality education.

We are fortunate to have Mrs. Flores as one of our own. Mrs. Flores demonstrates knowledge, patience, compassion, and confidence when dealing with her students. Mrs. Flores makes us believe each and every student can soar beyond any imaginable limits. Her students sense that confidence and work with her to make it happen. Mrs. Flores is able to sense her students' emotional ups and downs, thus responding to them appropriately.

Teachers must be pillars, consistently encouraging students to grow as human beings and to develop academically. Not only does she encourage her students, but she encourages us all.

Ride for Reading pedals to Hart

Hart Elementary is proud to be a recipient of the Ride for Reading Book Donation

On Friday, January 17,2014 at 12:45 PM Hart students lined 6th street and the back entrance of Guillen MS. Our students welcomed and cheered for the riders as they entered the campus. After the Riders all came through, everyone entered the Small Gym for a short assembly where several riders addressed the audience. At one point in the assembly the students were asked to take the Ride for Reading Oath. Our principal, Mrs. Prangner, excitedly rallied the students and Congressman Beto ORourke joined in on the activities.

The Ride For Reading mission is to promote literacy and healthy living through the distribution of books via bicycle to children from low-income neighborhoods. In low-income neighborhoods, the ratio of books per child is 1 age-appropriate book for every 300 children. *Reading is an integral part of education, and without books it is hard to build a strong academic base. Our children need materials to read at home and it is our goal to provide the means.

HART WELCOMES BACK KIDS EXCEL

HART STUDENTS KEEP MOVING WITH KIDS EXCEL

Hart has obtained a special PE grant for their 4th grade students. The grant consist of special PE activities conducted by a group called "Kids Excel".

Not only do KEEP classes get kids moving, they also get them thinking. Challenging children to approach tasks with maximum effort and energy helps them to learn that focus, concentration, tenacity, and determination can be fun and rewarding. KEEP instruction supports academic achievement with cross-curricular activities that translate into increased self-confidence in the classroom, positive risk-taking, and the discipline to achieve difficult goals. Limited English Proficiency students also benefit from KEEP instruction, gaining confidence by counting and repeating instructions in English in a “call and response” setting.
